Witbier
Witbier, or wit for short, is named after the cloudy haze the
wheat proteins leave behind after brewing. It differs from most
wheat beers because of the use of gruut, a spiced mixture held
over from Medieval days before beers were hopped. Up until the
micro-brew craze of the last few decades, wit was produced exclusively
in Belgium. This tart, refreshing brew is usually spiced with coriander
and orange and bitter orange peel. Many brewers add other exotic spices,
but keep their recipe a secret. As with other wheat beers, wit offers a
rich yeasty flavor and less hoppiness. Most wits use a half wheat, half
barley mixture for their mash, with an occasional spoonful of oats.
Golden color offering a translucent white appearance when chilled,
witbier is a favorite for cooling off in the summertime heat.

Wednesday tasting hours are 4:30 to 7:00 pm. Saturday tasting hours are 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Each sample is a one ounce portion to adults 21 and older.
Limit four different samples per person.
