Stop by on Thursday, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, to taste four wines perfect for Mothers Day.

=> The chardonnay is a blend of 76% chardonnay and 24% other California white grapes. The result is very zesty and tasty. The chardonnay is in the foreground, but the aromtics and finish are enhanced. Try guessing what the other grapes are!
=> Is mom a fan of streaks of the grill? The Napa cabernet sauvignon is savory and complex, with notes of cassis, plum, and spice, perfect for that t-bone.
=> We really loved the pair of sparkling wines and think both very appropriate for celebrating Mothers Day. The white sparkling wine is made from moscato grapes from Asti area of Piedmont, Italy. Only 5% alcohol, its flavors include honey, pear, and tangerine.
=> The red sparkling wine is made from brachetto and malvasia at only 5% alcohol. The grapes are from the Asti area of Piedmont, Italy as well. Its profile is loaded with red raspberry and while chocolate flavors. Serve the red bubbly chilled. The lower alcohol content gives the sparkling wines crowd pleasing appeal. Both make a wonderful aperitif or dessert.

Brachetto d'Asti

Brachetto is a grape grown in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is a rare wine and examples of it are few and far between here in the United States. As obscure as it is, this dessert wine is well worth exploring when it is available. (Libations will be pouring samples of it this Thursday, May 6, 2010.)
      Brachetto (brah-KEY-et-tow) possesses a lovely aroma of perfume, reminiscent of roses and spice. It has flavors of strawberries, raspberries, roses, honey, tangerines, and cinnamon. It is made into still and sparkling versions; its carbonated versions are most popular because of its romantic and celebratory character. Its rosy hue and bubbly body makes it the perfect Mother's Day wine. With its soft acidity and slight off-dry quality, this wine is perfect for pairing with chocolates.
      This wine has a place in Italian folklore as well. One of the most famous characters in Italian comedy masks is Gianduja da Gioan d'laduja, Johnny of the Jug. Johnny prefers his jug be filled with Bachetto. His character is considered synonymous with a bright, vivacious, upbeat attitude. He is also considered a drunkard, albeit one with a discriminating palate. In modern times, the term Gianduja is used for naming certain chocolate desserts, also from the same comical character. It sounds like this guy was an expert in decadent gastronomy.
      Festive, fun, rose colored, with a touch of sweetness, Brachetto d'Asti is a wonderful choice for your Mom. It is limited in production and mostly available during the Christmas holidays through Valentines Day, but we have scored some for Mother's Day. It is a rare treat not to be missed. One sip and you'll know why Johnny liked to keep his jug topped off with this delicious nectar.
